Frequently asked questions about Dermal Fillers, Lip Fillers and Botox®

FAQ - Dermal Fillers & Lip Fillers

What are dermal fillers?

The Juvederm and Belotero range contain hyaluronic acid – a substance that occurs naturally in the body. This means it not only fills wrinkles but also replaces something that the skin has lost over time.

Radiesse contains calcium micro spheres, these provide a lifting effect and give instant volume. And for even greater benefit, the micro spheres stimulate the production of your own natural collagen.

How long will the procedure take?

The procedure is quick and easy, the injection itself usually takes around 30 minutes. However, for your comfort we generally apply a skin anaesthetic cream that takes 30 minutes to be effective.

Are there any side effects?

Following injection you may experience redness, swelling or bruising in the area treated. However, at our clinic we strive to use a blunt micro cannula wherever possible to reduce the risk of bruising.

Please be assured that these side effects will not last and can be covered up with your usual make-up.

All skin injection procedures carry a risk of infection.

Will I notice the difference right away?

Yes, the results are immediate.

I would like my lips treated, but can you be sure I wont have a ‘trout pout’?

Absolutely, we prefer the natural rather than done look, and appreciate your lips are an important part of looking good and feeling beautiful. Because the results are immediate it is possible for you to decide during the treatment when the optimum result has been achieved.

Are there any special after care instructions?

The recovery time from dermal filler is minimal. For the first 24 hours following treatment you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure and alcohol.

How long will the effects last?

This is related to many factors such as:

  • Age
  • The area treated
  • Quality of skin
  • Life style
  • Quantity of filler injected
  • Type and brand of filler used.

FAQ - Botox®

What is Botox®?

Botox® is a prescription only medicine that temporarily blocks the contraction of muscles. The muscle is then relaxed and the wrinkle is reduced.

Botox® side effects?

As with any medicine, the injection of botulinum toxin may cause side effects in some people, although most will not have any. Were they to occur, side effects usually occur in the first few days of injection and are temporary.

The most common side effects are headache, drooping of the eyelid, skin redness, local muscle weakness and facial pain.

Other side effects can be related to the injection; bruising, redness, pain, burning, stinging and swelling. Adverse reactions possibly related to the spread of toxin distant to the site of injection have been reported very rarely (e.g. muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing).

Are there any special aftercare instructions?

Yes, do not rub or massage the treated areas for 24 hours and don’t apply make-up for 4 hours following treatment. You should also avoid alcohol, aspirin and ibuprofen for 24 hours which can increase the risk of bruising and swelling. Avoid lying flat or bending down excessively and any tiring physical exercise. Do not take a sauna the same day.

Can I see results immediately and how long will the effects last?

The results of treatment are seen within a week of injection, but may take up to two weeks to be fully effective. Treatment has been shown to be effective for 3-4 months. However this will depend on the condition of the skin, area treated and life-style factors such as smoking and sun exposure.
